"I have no photos of me with my Dad..."

I was watching a TV programme recently and a woman said this to the presenter with tear filled eyes. My heart sank for her. All of her love was poured into photos of her father from before she was born and the item she had brought into the show.

This lady was of an older generation where it was expensive to get film developed and her father passed away before she was one. It wasn't as easy peasy as it is now with all of our fancy cameras and phones. Her words did make me stop and think how many photos I was in with my wee one when she was tiny.

As a photographer I'm embarrassed to admit that I have very few photos of me with my newborn. When the Bounty portrait lady came around the maternity ward I got photos taken of my baby but not with me, when we got home I took photos of her with her dad and lots just of her but there is maybe only a handful with me in them.

It's one of my big regrets in life.

I was, too tired, my hair was a mess, life was a blur. Also because I knew nothing about photography at the time a lot of photos were taken indoors, in poorly lit areas and most of them are fuzzy and blurry.

I know this is the case with lots of other Mum's and Dad's so this is why I am passionate for you to have photos with your newborn. I also know that extra work and stress is something new parents do not need which is why my sessions are baby led and lifestyle. Lifestyle meaning gentle, natural, simple posing of you holding, looking and loving your baby and each other. I offer a no stiff poses, no forced smiles policy.

Early parenthood is such an important thing to document.

I know everyone want's photos of just their little one but you've just birthed a baby, it's probably one of the biggest milestones in your life and you don't want to be in the photos with them????

With all of my newborn photo sessions I love to capture photos of the whole family together and then of that special early connection of just baby with each parent. To see how small they are in your arms will bring back all the feels in the future. Dads always look super proud and babies heads are so tiny in their hands but I love to prioritize Mumma's during sessions. They're not in photos nearly enough and early Motherhood is such an important thing to document.

Lifestyle Newborn photography is so important, it documents that early stage in not just your wee ones life but in your parenthood in a relaxed and natural way. We won't be creating photos just for your children to look at, you'll be able to see yourselves grow with your sweet little people over the years and that is such a special thing that lifestyle photographers are able to give.

A place in your Family History

I don't know about you but when I was a child I used to love looking through our family albums and asking questions about previous generations, seeing photos of myself small and our changing family.

My mother is our family historian and it's a wonderful and grounding feeling to know that someone collected your childhood life story and your place in history has been recorded.

I like to think that in 100 years time that the people in your distant family tree will look at your photos and see YOU.
